Position: Part-Time Accountant

Office Location: Woodroffe

Position Overview

Responsible for accounting operations, risk management, and cash management. Perform internal financial reporting, reconciliations, and streamline accounting and banking processes. Maintain an adequate system of accounting and ensure all procedures comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Prepare Agency Bill monthly payments and payables checklist
  • Prepare operating payables on a regular basis
  • Perform daily banking downloads and updates to the GL
  • Accept daily Trust Account deposits of all types
  • New business billings confirmations
  • Petty Cash reconciliations and cheques as required
  • First Insurance Funding transactions as required
  • Generate weekly cash receipts report
  • Create and modify various spreadsheets
  • Carry out Direct Bill account reconciliations
  • Month end duties — client statements/insurer statements
  • Financial bookkeeping/accounting duties
  • Issue cheques as necessary
  • Attend to and follow up on emails and phone calls
  • Respond to information requests from management
  • Correspond with employees to answer queries and requests
  • Monitor office supplies and order as necessary
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance plus a general accounting designation such as CPA/CGA
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency in data entry and written correspondence, including complex spreadsheets
  • Online banking proficiency
  • Experience with specialized management system software (QuickBooks, PowerBroker)
  • MS Office Applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Mathematical skills including the ability to calculate percentages, ratios, averages, and premium rates
  • Problem solving and time management capabilities
  • Highly organized

Positions: Account Manager, Commercial Lines

Position Overview

Provide exceptional service to current and prospective commercial clients while building strong relationships and maintaining high retention. Responsible for the successful management of commercial insurance accounts, working closely with Account Executives to create insurance plans that protect client businesses and reduce risk.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Build strong client relationships to understand business needs and recommend insurance solutions that protect operations and reduce risk
  • Handle all account transactions including applications, proposals, summaries, endorsements, certificates, binders, and cancellations
  • Prepare clear and concise proposals and correspondence for clients
  • Work closely with Account Executives and teammates to achieve strategic account goals
  • Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts
  • Interpret policy wordings and legal agreements/contracts to ensure appropriate coverage
  • Calculate premium rates, percentages, ratios, and averages using established formulas
  • Maintain accurate records in the broker management system
  • Issue certificates of insurance and confirmations of coverage as required
  • Market new business and re-market renewals to various insurers
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma + RIBO licensing
  • Experience working in a Commercial Lines Insurance Broker role
  • Experience with insurance brokerage policy management and quoting software (Applied, Power Broker, Quotey), insurance company portals, and MS Office applications
  • Exceptional customer service capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Policy and/or legal agreement/contract interpretation skills
  • Mathematical skills (calculate percentages, ratios, averages, premium rates, use of formulas and pre-established equations)
  • Relationship management capabilities
Compensation
  • Competitive salary: $65,000 to $90,000 based on experience, plus annual bonus program
